The fastest path to market: introducing universal onboarding

Borderless is introducing Universal Onboarding, giving customers a faster way to start transacting across our global provider network without negotiating individual provider agreements upfront.

Through a single agreement, businesses can access our existing provider relationships, and establish direct provider relationships as needs evolve.

The network currently spans 19+ licensed providers across 113+ countries. Universal Onboarding makes that network accessible from the outset, reducing the time and initial operational complexity required to launch and scale global payments.

Coverage from day one

Expanding into new markets often means repeating the same onboarding process with every payment provider. Each relationship can require separate KYB reviews, legal agreements, commercial negotiations, and technical coordination before a company can begin processing payments.

Universal Onboarding removes much of this initial friction. Customers complete one agreement and one KYB process to access participating providers across our network.

Transactions continue to move between the customer's own wallet and the relevant provider, with rates confirmed against each provider's published pricing. The underlying payment flows remain unchanged.

Two ways to scale

Universal Onboarding gives businesses flexibility in how they establish and manage provider relationships.

Customers can access providers through Borderless's existing agreements, allowing them to launch without first setting up individual provider relationships. As their business grows, they can then establish direct relationships with providers, negotiate their own commercial terms, and operate under their own agreements.

Transitioning between the two models is designed to be seamless. Customers can introduce their own provider API keys and move to their direct provider agreements, either for an individual provider or across their network, without changing their integration.

We call this approach Start, Scale and Compound. It allows businesses to prioritize speed when entering new markets while retaining the flexibility to build and own their provider relationships over time.
