How Alpha Fortress scales local-currency payments to 100+ countries with Borderless

One connection to the Borderless network gives Alpha Fortress local payout rails in more than 100 countries, a second provider on key corridors, and one dashboard to run all of it.

Alpha Fortress is a Toronto-based blockchain advisory and payment processing company. Its money transfer service, N2Xpress, lets people send money abroad and pay bills overseas from its apps and agent locations. The same payout and compliance software behind it is available to financial institutions and businesses, so the senders range from individuals sending money home to companies paying staff and partners abroad.

Whoever the sender is, the payout side looks the same. A relatively small base of senders paying a very large number of recipients across Africa, Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Alpha Fortress built its business on a simple premise. Money sent home should be cheap to send and should land in a currency the recipient can spend. Getting people to send is the easy part. The harder part is securing the banking that carries the payment. Each country needs a licensed provider able to deliver funds on its rails, whether that is a bank, a payment company or a MobileMoney operator.

A recipient in Manila or Johannesburg is paid when the money is in their bank account or mobile wallet, in their own currency, for the amount that was quoted. No two providers that can do that exactly alike. Each has its own interface, its own compliance onboarding and its own reporting format. Every new market on a customer's list meant another provider to find, agree terms with, connect and learn, then keep running as volume grew.

Recipients also expect money the same day, but many local providers only settle during business hours, so a Friday evening payment could sit until Monday. Alpha Fortress needed to add countries without adding integrations, keep payouts moving when a provider was closed or declined one, and see all of it in one place. In 2025, it connected to Borderless.

Local rails in 100+ countries from a single connection

Alpha Fortress replaced its separate provider relationships with one integration to Borderless and the network of licensed providers behind it. Today it has payout rails enabled in more than 100 countries and 50 currencies, from South African rand and Philippine pesos to Brazilian reais, Turkish lira and UAE dirhams. Every one of those corridors was switched on through that same integration.

The recipient sees only their local rail: PIX in Brazil, SPEI in Mexico, PesaLink in Kenya, GCash in the Philippines, EFT in South Africa, Faster Payments in the UK, SEPA across Europe, or MobileMoney in a dozen African markets. Behind that, the payout is funded in USDC from Alpha Fortress's own wallet and converted by the locally licensed provider on the Borderless network.

"Borderless has proven to be a reliable, and innovative partner in our payment network. We look forward to continued partnership and building synergies across many more markets" - Kunbi Oguneye, CEO of Alpha Fortress

One dashboard for five providers

In a payments business, the heaviest cost is often the daily operational overhead: working out which of last night's payouts settled, which provider is holding one for more information, and whether each provider's ledger matches Alpha Fortress's own.

Alpha Fortress runs five providers behind Borderless, and its operations team sees all five in one dashboard. Every payout shows the same status fields in the same format, whichever provider carried it.

From the one dashboard, the team can:

  • Reconcile every transaction against each provider's ledger on a rolling schedule.

  • Answer a provider's request for more information in place with the identity and transaction already linked, instead of chasing five different provider channels.

  • Monitor every rail on the network and, where a second provider is live, move volume to it before a backlog builds.

From payouts to collections

Alpha Fortress came to Borderless for payouts, and the same connection is now set for collections. US dollars arrive by ACH and wire, euros over SEPA, and pesos and reais on local rails. As the network adds providers and rails, each one becomes available to Alpha Fortress and its customers without any additional work.

A recipient in Nairobi or São Paulo gets money in their own currency, on the rail they already use, from a sender who quoted a price and kept to it. Alpha Fortress built the platform and the customer base that make that promise. Borderless supplies the licensed rails underneath and the tools to run them. That is what lets Alpha Fortress pay out globally, and add the next country without another integration.
